Introduction to Foraging + Wildcrafting Cottonwood is being held on February 25th, 2024 in the Albany and Corvallis area.

This class will be held from around sunrise well into the day. Once we are back at Moon Chaser Farm, we’ll have lunch (potluck style) and begin distilling. The structure of this class will be really free form and organic, so ask questions whenever one comes to you! Since the distillation will take many hours, we’ll begin infusing and making salves as well as tinctures while we watch the hydrosol accumulate in our jar from the morning’s Cottonwood harvest. Each product we make, we will go over proportions, instructions, uses, and safety.

What to wear?

Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty—the resin from Cottonwood is quite sticky, and will get on your hands. Wearing gloves does not work, but it can easily be removed from the hands with rubbing alcohol which will be provided 😊 Dress warm and always prepare for rain and wind! Wear good boots for mud and puddles as well. Cottonwoods grow along bodies of water, so we’ll be sticking to the river, not gaining elevation.

What to bring?

Bring yourself a snack and a warm beverage for while we are foraging. And of course, water! Depending on a few things, we may be foraging for a couple hours and possibly even at more than one location (though not far from each other). Please also plan to bring a dish to share for the potluck at the farm while we are distilling and wildcrafting.

At the end of class, you will have your own cottonwood oil infusion, a Cottonwood salve, tincture, as well as hydrosol. If the hydrosol hasn’t finished enough for everyone to take a bottle home, yours will be shipped to you.
